How big is your troop?
We currently have ~ 30 girls registered with the troop, ranging in age from 5 to 13. Each unit within the troop is led by a minimum of two trained adult volunteers.
I see you are a Catholic Troop. What does that mean?
AHG is a Christian program for girls from all Christian Denomination that offers faith formation, service opportunities, and introduces girls to new skills, badgework, and outdoor adventures. Catholic troops are run out of Catholic parishes or apostolates and focus on Catholic faith award programming and promoting "Catholic culture" within the troop.
I am not Catholic; can I still join the troop?
Absolutely! While we are a Catholic Troop, all Christian denominations are welcome. We have a Protestant Faith Award Mentors to help your daughter earn her applicable faith awards.
What do my Troop Dues and Fundraising Cover?
Our troop is completely self-funded. We rely on a combination of member dues, fundraising and sponsorships to fund our annual operating budget, which includes facility fees, programming fees, supplies and materials for badgework, 3-4 badges plus service stars for each girl, volunteer support for the ministry team.
Does a parent need to stay at every meeting?
Parent attendance requirements vary based on the volunteer position of the parent. We have a parent participation requirement to ensure that all families are contributing to the functioning of the troop. We encourage all parents to take an active role in the troop structure.
I have sons, and other small children. Can I bring them with me to the AHG meetings?
Childcare is provided for children 5 and under for parents who are actively volunteering during troop meetings. Children of parents who are volunteering during meetings and who are over 5 may use a specified area to do quiet activities brought from home such as reading, coloring, legos, or board games.
Do you have events on days other than Mondays?
Yes, we have optional events such as service opportunities, outdoor events (including camping trips), and other special events. We are all busy families and recognize that not all members can attend every event. Each family chooses which events to attend.
Do you meet over the summer?
The troop is inactive during the summer and hence, there are no formal meetings. We are planning optional activities including service projects, outdoor adventures, and the opportunity to attend regional summer camp.
